THINGS TO KNOW WHILE IN ITALY

1) Bank opening times . 08.30 to 13.20 Monday to Friday

  2) Shopping times :  0900 to 12.30  & 1600 to 19.30 (some shops close on Mornings others on Wednesday afternoon)  Monday to Saturday
Large supermarkets open at 8.30 and stay open till about 20.00.  You will need either a € 1 or € 2 coin  to unlock the trolley and which will be returned when you replace it in its hold.
For the purchase of fruit and vegetables be sure to do as the natives do and use the plastic gloves provided, as well as the transparent sacs to put your fruit and veg in.   Carrier bags at check out till have to be paid for !!
Most shops tend to close on Sundays however the famous Designer Outlets tend to be open
24/7/365 !  Further information can be obtained locally at your property rental.

  3) Petrol station : most now offer a 24 hour service. .you put money or credit card into machine and then pump will start working.  During the day (7am to 12.30 and 15.30 to19.00 staff also available)
At motorway service areas there is usually staff in attendance from 7am till 20pm.

  4) Museums : closed on Mondays ….it is now possible to pre-book  visits so please enquire when booking  your rental property.

  5) Electricity : at a premium in Italy so please don’t leave lights on needlessly !  The voltage is 220 volts …ensure you have suitable adaptors with you !

  6) Churches and cathedrals: when visiting religious sites please ensure that you are properly attired ..no sleeveless tops or exposed bellies, trousers should be below the knee.  Failing to do so will see you refused entry as décor is seen as a sign of respect.

  7) Stamps : these can usually be bought with postcards…no real need for a trip to the Post Office, otherwise pop into any Tabaccheria  (look out for the T sign).

  8) Parking : always be sure to park in areas which are marked with BLUE lines (you pay to park)
Yellow lines denote disabled parking and white lines are for RESIDENT ITALIANS ONLY. Fines are quickly administered and are expensive.
